Some Tidbits
There were 191 teams in the 2008 Esso Golden Ring in 18 divisions of play. There were a total of 369 Games (500 hours of ice). The ice bill will be approximately $76,000.00.
There were approximately 80 on-ice officials used in the tournament.
Referee game fees for the tournament total $12,000.00. The cost of "importing" referees and transporting them is an additional $5000. Plus, hotel rooms are provided free of charge to all out of town officials. Transportation was provided to out of town officials to all of their games.
Committee members accumulated 764 draw prizes for players (4 for each team), including 191 custom orange stinger sticks with Esso Golden Ring imprinted on them. All players received Esso Golden Ring souvenir items - lapel pins, pens, posters and a custom necklace. All Bunny and Novice teams received participation medals for their friendship series.
Committee Members accumulated $4900 worth of donated prizes for the Esso Golden Ring Raffle (all $10,000 tickets were sold thanks to Calgary teams)
There were 285 Individuals from Calgary teams who volunteered at arenas, plus over 200 people who were minor officials and shot clocks operaters at the semi and final games. There are 23 tournament committee members, who opened arenas as early as 5:30 am, and closed as late as 12:15 am.
The "control centre" was at East Twin and was staffed with committee members and volunteers all weekend who circulated game scores, uploaded scores to the website, compiled results, and generated pre-printed gamesheets for all games.
Committee members were linked by cellular phones donated by Fido, and averaged more than 500 km of driving over the weekend.
